Court Appearance

This bracket isn’t a flat ticket. In Alberta, speeding 51 km/h or more over the posted limit requires a mandatory court appearance, with the fine set at the court’s discretion. No demerit points are applied automatically — they’re only added if a conviction results once the Crown has reviewed the file.

It’s separate from demerit points and happens before any court process — you have 7 days from the Notice of Administrative Penalty to request a SafeRoads Alberta review.

An immediate 24-hour licence suspension so the driver can sober up or recover. No fine, and it isn’t a conviction — but it can still be worth a closer look at your file.
